If you’ve got a sporty sedan, coupe, or crossover and you really want to get the most out of your vehicle’s performance envelope of cornering, braking, and steering response, sometimes there’s nothing else that will get the job done except summer or ultra-high-performance tires. There are plenty of performance-oriented all-season and touring tires on the market, but summer and UHP tires can deliver a bit of an edge in traction and performance, thanks to a specially formulated, “stickier” tread compound and internal construction.
It’s even better when an ultra-high-performance tire has similar elements to an all-season tire so that it can provide good year-round traction, competent road manners, a long tread life and a quiet, forgiving ride. That’s what you can expect with the Toyo Proxes Sport A/S, as it's designed for the kind of drivers who love spirited driving, but don’t want to change tires with the seasons and don’t want the short lifespan of a lot of summer/UHP tires. The result is a tire that offers true UHP performance without compromising on the dependability and practicality you want in an all-season tire, and it won’t clean out your bank account at purchase time, either.
So what is it about the tire that makes it a great deal and a great value in a performance-oriented all-season tire? Let’s take a closer look with this Toyo Proxes Sport A/S review.
Features and Benefits
Here’s some of what you can expect with this Toyo tire:
- Silica-rich nano-balanced tread formulation is designed for long treadwear and excellent traction in wet or dry weather
- Multi-wave sipe pattern enhances wet or dry weather traction and minimizes irregular wear while keeping road noise low
- Rim protector built into the sidewall guards your wheels against scuffs and curb rash
- Alignment wear indicators molded into the tread to alert drivers to uneven wear and possible wheel alignment problems
- Circumferential grooves divert water away from the tire’s contact patch and resist hydroplaning effect in standing water
- Asymmetric tread with ribs designed for high-speed stability, more even pressure for great handling, braking, and cornering performance
- Lateral grooves with angled grooves and notches at shoulder for improved wet-weather traction
- Tread pitch is randomized and computer-tuned to keep road noise low
- Rim sizes from 16” to 22” for a wide variety of fitments
- Backed by a 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
Pros and Cons
So, is this the right tire for your right and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s strengths:
PROS:
- Excellent cornering and braking traction
- More affordable than some competitor’s tires
- Generous treadwear coverage
- Great steering response and road manners
- Dry and wet weather traction are outstanding
CONS:
- Not good in deeper snow
- Ride gets a little jittery over rough roads
- Not the most fuel efficient tire
- Ride comfort could be better
SimpleTire’s view on Toyo Proxes Sport A/S tires
People tend to think of all-season tires as a jack of all trades, master of none. It’s understandable that people would think that way, as all-season tires are the single biggest selling tire segment in the business and are a great choice for daily drivers and year-round traction, but they also often mean a compromise in terms of handling, cornering, and braking performance. That’s not the case with the Toyo Proxes Sport A/S.
The Proxes Sport A/S offers handling and braking that are simply phenomenal and compare favorably to tires that cost far more. One of the biggest complaints about summer/UHP tires is that their softer, stickier tread formulation will stiffen up and lose traction on colder days, which is why tire manufacturers advise against using them if temperatures are below 40-45 degrees. The Proxes Sport A/S, though, can deliver UHP performance year-round without any of those worries. It also beats plenty of UHP tires in terms of tread life; many summer/UHP tires don’t come with a treadwear warranty at all, but the 50k mile treadwear coverage of the Toyo Proxes Sport A/S is the exception.
No, the Proxes Sport A/S isn’t great in deeper snow, but most all-season tires aren’t. We feel that its treadwear warranty, price point and overall performance in wet or dry conditions far outweigh quibbles like winter traction or ride quality, and we’re sure that if you give the Proxes Sport A/S a shot, you’ll agree.

Very nice tires, look and feel amazing in adverse weather.
We shopped around all over for tires. We couldn't find a better price and customer service was awesome! This was our first purchase it certainly won't be our last!
Great overall performance tire for the Tesla Model S. I have the performance model and did start to notice a slight loss in grip in the dry when pushed hard after about 5,000 miles compared to the Continental's that came with the car that never lost grip in the dry. That is expected since the Toyo's are a harder compound. If you are looking for great performance in the wet and dry and you want better tread life and don't mind a slight loss of grip, than these Toyo's are a great buy!
This is an all around great tire for the Tesla Model S. They perform extremely well when new, but as they wear you will notice a loss of performance in high speed cornering and off the line acceleration when in launch mode. The tire still performs extremely well, is quiet and has greater tread life than most other performance tires for this car.
Great year around tire, you get a little bit of everything. But if you looking for maximum traction in dry only i recommend R888r
