  • Goodyear Assurance All-Season

Here’s a fun fact: all-season tires make up about 85 percent of all passenger car tire sales in the United States. Why do all-season tires dominate the tire market that way? It’s because all-season tires make the perfect jack-of-all-trades solution for most drivers. All-season tires are a year-round value, with traction that’s consistent in just about every kind of weather condition other than heavy snow. They also offer great tread wear properties with a generous limited manufacturer’s warranty, road manners that are steady and solid, capable handling, and a quiet, refined ride on the highway. When you consider all that, all-season tires start looking better and better as the Swiss Army Knife of the tire world, one that checks most of the boxes that most drivers are looking for in a set of premium tires.

Premium all-season tires from a brand like Goodyear are designed around the weight, power, torque, center of gravity, and overall driving and handling dynamics of today’s generation of vehicles, often in collaboration with automakers. The Goodyear Assurance All-Season is a great example; it’s a tire that’s designed for versatile performance, year-round grip, and long tread life for the latest generation of sedans, coupes, minivans, and crossovers. Loaded with advanced features and innovations, this is a tire that delivers and meets the expectations of drivers looking for a top-grade all-season tire. Let’s go in and get a closer look with this Goodyear Assurance All-Season tire review:

    Features and Benefits

    Goodyear Assurance All-Season

Here are some of the next-generation design features and attributes that make the Goodyear Assurance All-Season a great performer and a great value in a premium all-season tire:

    • All-season tread design features wide circumferential, angled and lateral grooves to efficiently resist hydroplaning on wet roads by routing water away from the tire’s contact patch
    • Symmetric tread design with large, reinforced shoulder blocks that help promote confident cornering and handling dynamics
    • Continuous center rib is designed for solid straight-line stability, steering response that’s light and quick
    • Advanced tread formulation is designed for long wear and enhanced traction in wet weather
    • Tread pitch is randomized and computer-tuned to keep road noise low by canceling certain frequencies and overtones
    • Reinforced shoulder reduces “tread squirm” and deformation going into a corner by boosting the tread face’s rigidity and stability
    • Polyester cord body with twin steel belts for stability and long wear
    • Tire footprint is redesigned and optimized to put more rubber in contact with the road for improved braking, traction, and enhanced weight distribution for even tread wear
    • Intricate network of sipes multiplies traction year-round with hundreds of thin biting edges to slice through snow, slush, water
    • Covered by Goodyear with a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty

    Pros and Cons

In the case of the Goodyear Assurance All-Season, this is a tire that presents far more Pros than Cons:

    PROS:

    • Generous limited manufacturer’s tread life coverage
    • Handling is predictable and precise
    • Ride quality is refined and quiet with little highway noise

    CONS:

    • Not good in heavier snow
    • Ride can be a little firm on some pavement surfaces
    • Road noise can be a little louder on some pavement surfaces

SimpleTire’s view on Goodyear Assurance All-Season tires

    Goodyear Assurance All-Season

Are you familiar with SimpleScore? SimpleScore is the rating system that the SimpleTire team devised to give you a quick and easy overview of a tire’s strengths and weaknesses. We take into account the technical details, manufacturer’s info, specs, customer reviews, and other data points, and then we process that information to a 1-10 numerical value for the categories of traction, handling, and longevity, as well as an overall average SimpleScore for the tire. In the case of the Goodyear Assurance All-Season, our SimpleScore ratings look like this:

    Goodyear Assurance All-Season:

    • Traction: 8.4
    • Handling: 8.4
    • Longevity: 9.0
    • Overall average SimpleScore: 8.5

In the case of the Goodyear Assurance All-Season, Goodyear’s noise/vibration/harshness team definitely put in the time on this tire; ride quality is comfortable and controlled with very little in the way of pavement irregularities making their way to the passengers and driver. The Assurance All-Season also keeps its composure over rough or broken pavement or railroad tracks, with a solid and confident feeling of control for the driver.

Straight-line stability and road manners are excellent with the Assurance All-Season; it stays planted where you want it to go with little need for correction and tweaks, but it’s never sluggish – road feel and steering response are light and immediate without being overly touchy or sensitive. Going into a corner or taking an interstate offramp at high speed, the Assurance All-Season is confident and predictable with little tendency toward understeer, although cornering and handling might not quite be up to the levels you’d expect with a summer or UHP tire.

The grip on wet pavement is secure and consistent, and on dry pavement, the Assurance All-Season is practically glued to the road. It’s true that the Assurance All-Season doesn’t perform well in deeper snow or slush, but then again that’s not what a tire like this was designed for. In lighter snow, the Assurance All-Season’s braking and control are capable thanks to its dense network of sipes, and hair-thin slits that multiply the tread’s surface area to handily slice through snow, slush, and standing water. The tough internal design and wear-resistant tread compound of the Assurance All-Season give it great wear properties, and Goodyear backs this tire with a very respectable 65,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life warranty.

With the Goodyear Assurance All-Season, Goodyear has redefined what a modern all-season passenger tire is supposed to be about. It’s our take here at SimpleTire that this is a tire that delivers excellent value and performance for a wide range of vehicles, with the kind of grip, handling, road manners, and ride that will make it a great choice for long interstate road trips or day-to-day errands and commutes.

2015 Malibu with 117,000 miles that was equipped with GoodYear Assurance tires. At about 48,000 miles we were in an accident that sliced rear drivers tire. The other driver's insurance company allotted for one new tire. I went ahead and replaced all four tires with another set of GY Assurance at 48,000 miles. That set took me to where we are now @ 117,000 with 69k miles on this set. I just ordered anther set of GY Assurance that barring accidents should take us for another 65-70k miles. They have been a great tire for us.

It is good for all season except for snow and ice. I live on a 3000 foot mountain, and have to climb it to get home. With an AWD car and these tires it really cannot get home in the winter on these tires. Otherwise they are excellent. Recently we switched to Goodyear WeatherReady tires (no longer sold on SimpleTire for some reason) and they are nearly as good in all conditions as the All-Weather tires except on dry handling where I would reduce the rating to four stars, and increase the winter traction to four stars as well as it is more than adequate to get us home in the winter. So these tires were good for us except in winter, but the WeatherReady has this beat in that condition.

Best tires very smooth and have great grip in dry and in wet if you are not an aggressive driver. Tires are okay in the chicago snow and you have to drive slow. Quiet tires feels like im driving on a cloud driving 0-90mph

Good quality for the price. I used to by Goodyear Integrity tires in a local store. They don't carry anymore that brand and this was my first-time purchase from SimpleTire online store. So far I'm happy with the tires performance. Usually buy 2 tires and will definitely buy from this store again in the future as needed.
