Got a light truck, SUV, or Jeep that’s four-wheel-drive equipped and you like to take it off-road now and then? Do you live in a place that sees hard winter weather, with snow on the ground for weeks at a time? Those are some pretty steep expectations for any tire, especially when you’re also looking for a tire that can offer good road manners, handling, ride quality, and noise levels on the highway.
If that sounds like your situation, you really ought to consider the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S. The Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S is a durable, long-wearing tire that’s designed for outstanding performance off the pavement, dependable traction in tough winter weather, and civilized behavior on long interstate trips or daily-driver errands around town. You can think of the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S as a tough, hardworking blue-collar guy wearing a business suit. It’s truly a do-it-all tire that’s a great option for aggressive off-road adventures in rough terrain, or for world-class ride comfort and drivability on the tarmac.
But don’t just take our word for it here – let’s go in for a closer look with this Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S review.

SimpleTire’s view on Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S tires
For 20 years now, light trucks and SUVs have become some of the most common vehicles on the road. Many, many of those trucks are equipped with 4WD for year-round traction, and the all-season tires that have been prevalent for light trucks are getting edged out by all-terrain designs. The best all-terrain tires offer a great balance of off-road traction and durability with road manners, ride quality, and low noise that wouldn’t wear you out and become tiresome on a multi-hour interstate road trip.
That’s what you can expect with the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S. First off, the tire industry doesn’t hand out the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMS) certification unless a tire can really perform in snow and slush, but the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S is a tire that can get the job done, thanks to the Snow Groove Technology at the tire’s shoulders, dense sipe pattern, and tread blocks that all work together to claw through deep snow or slush. This tire’s also equally at home in mud, gravel, loose dirt, and rough terrain, with a reinforced casing and silica-rich tread formulation. What you won’t experience with the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S, however, is a noisy, rough ride on pavement – it’s about as quiet and comfortable as a Grand Touring automotive tire.
The 65,000 mile limited manufacturer’s tread life coverage is outstanding, especially considering that many all-terrain tires don’t even come with a mileage warranty at all. With sizes from 15” to 22”, chances are you’re going to be able to find a Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S that will be a fit for whatever you’re driving.
As for the cons listed above: no, it’s not surprising that this tire doesn’t do well in deeper mud, since it’s technically a “mild” all-terrain tire and isn’t designed for those kinds of conditions. If that’s what you’re after, you should maybe consider upgrading to a rugged-terrain tire. Also, the reports that this tire can get a little rattled over rough pavement might have just as much to do with a test vehicle that has a stiff off-road suspension, honestly. Overall, we feel that the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 4S is just a great choice in an all-terrain tire for year-round traction on a light truck or SUV.

One of the best tires cooper has ever made. Ive have been buying cooper tires for a long time. 10+ years. ive had the STT, the ST, Zeon rs3-a, rs3-s, cobra, cs2, cs3, cs4, weathermaster, discoverer m+s, etc and these at3's are one of the best. Right now they are on my 2015 f150 supercrew 4x4 and have been for 20,000 miles. the tires still look new, even with the occasional burnout (cause i keep them rotated). they are super quiet at highway speeds and even at 100+ mph. they handle excellent on drive payment, i can take 35mph corners at 60 with only a little sequel from them. which is impressive for 5500lb truck. even in the rain i can still take the same corner at 45mph but after that the front end looses grip and starts pushing. In the snow they are 10x better than the old hankook dynapros that came on the truck. they provide tons of grip in the snow but not too much that i cant drift it and in 4x4 with the diffs locked i can push snow with the front bumper. ice is where they seem to fail but that is expected from any tire without studs in them. Highly recommend you get these if you have a truck
Great all season traction. Especially winter. Wear a little faster than expected with scheduled rotations. But overall a great tire.
By far the best money I ever spent on tires would never buy another brand again best tires I ran on my f150 since I owned it
We have only had these tires for a month with about a thousand miles on them. So far I am very pleased with the tire quality and build. They have only been test on dry road and have performed very well on the Suburban. I am very interested in how the tire will perform this winter. Overall I am very happy with the tire but can only comment on their performance on dry road.
I can't say for sure about winter because it was ending when I installed them, but there was some snow. These are good on dirt roads. My last tires sunk in and moved in the flow of the mud. These stay in control on dirt. I am still not going as fast on dirt as other traffic because there is some kind of crunching that the car didn't do before: maybe It is the shocks, as I go over various rocks and bumps. Rain driving has a slight hydroplaning but it is better than my last tires, which were good ones. It gets windy here. Braking is good. Overall good choice for farm area.
Fantastic company with all questions answered quickly before hand by multiple people glad to get the business. Shipping was one day ahead of schedule and was free. Will use from now on.
Was not impressed with snow traction, but I have had Nokian AT Plus tires. Snow traction diminished about 1/2 tread. The tire did great on dry pavement right up to the 63k miles where I am taking them off. They have 4/32 tread left. They are now dangerous on wet pavement. They was great on wet roads when newer. Mud traction was on par with most all terrain tires, anyone that says all terrain tires are good in mud has never had mud tires. Hard pack, rock, gravel, tires performed fine. Fuel mileage suffered very little over the stock Goodyear's highway tires that came on the ram 1500 4x4 eco diesel. I drive between 1000 to 1600 PER WEEK. 600 To job site and back home on interstate. I do power line work in the Appalachian mountain range. These tires have been used off road with no failures. Cooper has a winner here.
