  • Americus PS2000 is a high-quality tire that’s designed for use on medium to heavy-duty trucks and buses and is capable of delivering long-lasting service. The company Americus is known for manufacturing tires tailor-made for American roads, which means you can be sure about the PS2000’s quality. It sports a high initial tread depth for great traction and performance and a ply rating that starts at 14 and may even go up to 16 for certain sizes.

While a wide footprint is responsible for uniform wear, an advanced tread compound ensures low rolling resistance for a favorable fuel economy. Though not SmartWay certified yet, we’re sure it will be so in some time. So, if you’re in the market for commercial tires that offer reliable performance and can fit at the steer axle position, do go through the Americus PS2000 review to understand if it meets your requirements. To mention, the tire has an average SimpleScore rating of 7.5, which is considered good at the price point the tire is offered.

    Features and Benefits

Being a premium OTR tire, the PS2000 comes with many impressive features. It is meant to fit in the specific steer axle position on buses and medium/heavy-duty trucks. During the Americus PS2000 tire review, we found the following features and benefits:

    • Great dry traction: A solid shoulder design with integrated relief notches and a high tread depth enables the PS200 to generate high traction, resulting in a score of 7.5.
    • Longer service life: While the tread depth plays a role here yet again, a wide contact patch enhances weight distribution for enhanced service life. As far as longevity is concerned, this tire receives a score of 7.5.
    • High durability: The tread formulation is engineered to ensure high durability, in line with a score of 7.8. Additionally, sipes also play a role in making the tires durable.
    • Good fuel economy: Though the tire is not yet SmartWay certified, the low rolling resistance design results in good fuel economy.
    • Better wet traction: The sipes present on the tread are responsible for improving wet weather traction.
    • Enhanced load-carrying capacity: A ply rating of 14 or 16 means a tremendous ability to carry heavy loads.

    Pros and Cons

An all-season tire compound on this tire means that it provides year-round traction and performance. Along with the tread pattern, the tread design is also helpful in reducing driving pressure on the tire. Use the following pros and cons to form a better all-round judgement about the tire:

    PROS:

    • Prevents hydroplaning for increased wet grip
    • Resistant to abrasions and scuffing
    • Minimizes irregular wear for longer tread life
    • Optimized for high load-carrying capacity
    • Offers smooth rides
    • Tough sidewall optimized for cut and chip resistance

    CONS:

    • No limited manufacturer tread life warranty is offered
    • Likely to be noisy compared to its peers

SimpleTire’s view on Americus PS2000 tires

It makes the most sense to purchase a commercial tire that can cover long distances while ensuring healthy fuel efficiency figures. The tread compound on the Americus PS2000 is specially engineered to lower fuel consumption, leading to savings at the end of every month. A wide contact patch, responsible for the high Americus PS2000 rating, brings more rubber into contact with the road, leading to better steering response and a longer service life. To ensure uniform wear and enhanced wet weather traction, this tire features multiple sipes.

Bought 2 of these tires for my steering axle and they didn't last 3 months. I run local and I got maybe 18,000 miles out of these tires. I would not recommend anyone buy them.

I bought 2 of these for my Freightliner Century. They ride really soft ,and sway around on the sidewalls as if they are low of air. I put 105lbs in both of them . They're cupping out after just a few trips. These might be better in a lightweight situation ,but not on a big truck steer. Idk what the steer weight is on a rear engine RV but that might be a better option for these tires. Just because they ride so soft.
